Brushes with Greatness

by laurenlux

I had the pleasure of meeting the ladies behind Get the Gloss today at Liberty’s Brushes with Greatness event. The event is a week full of makeup tips, workshops, and demonstrations from beauty’s biggest names in the industry such as Susannah Taylor and Sarah Vine from Get the Gloss. The ladies today showed me some amazing products! A favourite was the Inner Strength Aroma Therapy Associates bath oil. The story behind it is just incredible. Geraldine Howard, co-founder and president of Aroma Therapy Associates is suffering from terminal illness and needed a mental kick of sorts, to release the tension and stress she experienced when going through treatments. She had been mixing oils for clients for years, and finally decided to do one with herself. So in her words: “I ended up with ‘Inner Strength’, a blend of Clary Sage and Frankincense to lift my spirits, Rosemary and Cardamom to give physical strength, Geranium to balance, Vetivert and Camomile to calm and finally Rose, which to me, is a like a ‘hug in a bottle’.” It’s an incredible story and Inner Strength is certainly on my list to purchase in the near future. 10% of all proceeds goes towards research, so if not for myself, I’ll purchase to contribute to a good cause.

I left the event today having met two iconic personalities in the beauty industry, goodie bag in hand, and a new beautiful lipstick – Icon by hourglass. The goodie bag includes: Liberty Rose handsoap, Glam cellulite formula (just in time for my trip to Asia hehe), Udo’s choice Omega 3/6 oil (YUM!!!), Eve Lom mask, NARS lip gloss pencil, Hourglass mascara, Trish McEvoy blush stick, Seche Vite polish topcoat, Rose Salve lip balm, Margaret Dobbs cuticle cream, Ren face milk, Rahua conditioner, and Decleor face cream. I feel spoiled, loved, and like I have enough beauty products to last a lifetime. I’m clearly not a beauty blogger/person but have a great appreciation for cosmetics/skincare/makeup and all it’s enthusiasts, which is why I thought it was worth posting this. For more info, check out Brushes with Greatness.

Elegantly Grey

by laurenlux

There are 3 ways to describe Danish style: minimal, structured, and sporty (but luxe). It’s almost like Nike meets Acne meets Chanel, all in one outfit. It was nice to go without seeing a Mulberry bag for 3 days. I’m not a Mulberry fan (sorry, I’m not sorry). From kids to adults, everyone was wearing cool trousers with trainers. I am insanely inspired by this look and already have my eye on the pair of New Balance below (the UKK 420). They would go perfect with a pair of leather pants. I do have to say though, credit mainly goes to my friend living in Denmark who had them. Trying to decide between getting a dark pair like this or a colourful pair is difficult, so I think I’ll just have to get both. Oh well.

Favourite brands in Denmark are: Samsøe Samsøe, Dansk, Weekday, Wood Wood, Storm Fashion. If I could choose an outfit right now, it would be this:

2. Wood Wood Hope Jumper

3. Samsøe Samsøe Stefani Skirt

4. Weekday Jewellery & Tote

6. Acne Angora Scarf (last season)

Word to the Wang

by laurenlux

Last week I dropped by KCD press week. I must admit, I generally hate press days. The only reason I went to this one was because my ultimate favvvvourite brands (Wang and Lim) were showing and I wanted to see what they had in store for AW13. It’s cray cray how it’s not even summer yet and we’re talking Autumn!

M-M-M-Mint

by laurenlux

In spirit of St. Patricks, let’s talk green. Firstly, I’d like to say I had quite an eventful weekend celebrating St. Patty’s in Dublin. Two words to describe it: pure carnage. There were about 15-20 Canadians dressed in ridiculous green outfits from head to toe which was a fashion disaster to say the least. But when it comes to celebrating holidays, who cares!

Now, onto what’s trending: Spring greens. I have fallen madly in love with sea-foam/mint green. This has got to be one of my favourite colours for Spring/Summer 12. My most recent seafoam green purchase was The Kooples Flowing Crepe Shirt, featured below, and key sea-foam green pieces, and looks that they go with. Oh, and how can I forget, ST PATTY’S DAY PICS!

Spring Cleaning (essentials) for Men

by laurenlux

It’s that time again… SPRING is in the air, and not only in London this time, but Toronto too! Do you know what that means? All you men need to sock away your puffy Canada Goose jackets, kick off your Timberland boots, and make room for some color and lightweight pieces! What to expect this Spring? Even brighter neon hues, stripes, mixing of formal and informal wear, and layers. Although wearing too many trends can be a bit much, there are ways to tastefully work one at a time without foregoing the entire look. Lets start with these for now:

A wee bit of color-blocking with the Folk Paneled Cotton T-shirt

Man in Red: Acne Ribbed Cotton Shirt

J.Crew Electric Blue Cashmere Jumper

This Nudie Pique Sweatshirt is an essential neutral for any man’s closet

Ahoy! Black Fleece Striped Cotton Shirt

Lovely blue Folk Tom Cotton Shorts

These scream Spring. Folk Slim Fit Cotton & Linen Trousers

This John Smedley yellow is not mellow.

I can’t seem to get enough Folk today. LOVE these buttons. Such a creative embellishment.. and Japanese Cotton? You can’t go wrong.

A little bit of patchwork can never hurt with the Maison Martin Margiela Denim Detail Shirt

I was recently introduced to Edwin by a close friend – pretty reasonably priced tapered jeans

Ami Woven Leather Belt – can be easily dressed up or down

Sport this with Luminox 3000 Series Watch with class

Too Kewl: Gucci Contrast Sole Shoe

Rag & Bone: Womenswear Edition

by laurenlux

Words cannot describe my love for Rag & Bone womenswear. Despite its high price point, it always manages to make its way into my closet. My secret you ask? Okay, fine. I’ll give it away. I only shop Rag & Bone off of www.theoutnet.com, which is Net-A-Porter‘s discount website.  This is likely the most resourceful website when it comes to designer sales. They have offices in New York and the UK so shipping is never expensive, and they offer free returns. WIN WIN WIN. Minus my bank account.

These Surf Knit Leggings are new to R&B and have literally sold out everywhere. I am dying for a pair of these. HELP.

Hanneli Mustaparta in the lovely Jodhpur Plum legging jeans

I own these. I love these. This is how they make me feel. Get them here. QUICK! While they’re still on sale!

Introducing, the Hart collection. Dont. Miss. Out.

Another pair I would do anything for. Goetz Print Legging. Pastel perfect.

Silver Tuxedo Blazer. Hello.

Last but not least, the Newport Wedge.

Rag & Bone: Menswear Edition

by laurenlux

I have always loved Rag-and-Bone for it’s minimal yet individualistic style. This classic American brand deserves a big kudos for it’s craftsmanship, quality of materials, and fashion forward design. The typical Rag-and-Bone man is rooted deep in England’s past and has an appreciation for folksy heritage which always lies at the center of David Neville and Marcus Wainwright’s collections. This Spring brings Rag-and-Bone exciting electric yellow, blues, seafoam green, and geometric prints both seen in the menswear and womenswear collections.

Northside Duffle Coat

3/4 Placket Shirt (these are the Seafoam greens I was referring to)

Electric teal tank top

Nothing says it better than stripes with the Murrary Crew Sweater

Reasonably skinny Indigo Salvage jeans for those of you men wishing to take a risk

Splurge on a versatile pair of Hampton Desert Boots (pair with any and all of the above)
